HAKOAH
is Sydney’s Jewish Home to the World!
Sydney’s
Jewish community has a ‘home away from home’ during the Olympics
– and visitors aplenty will make it a truly international
festival! |
The Hakoah Club, social and
cultural centre of Sydney’s vibrant Jewish community has opened its doors
to the Jewish world with a hospitality program and facilities to delight
even the biggest krechtser!
Situated at spectacular Bondi
Beach, in the heart of the Jewish community, right on public transport and
close to many Olympic events (including beach volleyball, marathon, football
and road cycling) the club has flung open its doors with the loudest
combination of "Shalom!" and "G’day!" the community
Down Under can muster.
|
Locals will rub shoulders with visiting
sports fans, tourists and athletes as the club offers the excitement of the
complete Olympic experience with all the comforts of its one-stop social hub…
twenty-four hours a day!
Featuring:
- Visitors information desk and resource
centre staffed by B'nai B'rith volunteers
- Free internet access for all visitors
- Huge video screens carrying live Olympic
coverage
- Family restaurant and supper club with
free nightly entertainment – comedy cabaret, klezmer, dancing!
- Jaffa’s Kosher restaurant
- Maccabi Bar
- Jewish
Sporting Greats Exhibition – in partnership with B’nai B’rith.
- Swimming Pool, Health and Fitness Club
- Bridge Club
- Latest technology slot machines and keno
But wait,
there’s more!
The Club will also host the official team
reception for Israeli athletes on Tuesday September 26 , featuring a
performance by the acclaimed Sydney Jewish Choral Society. A huge,
celebratory Jewish Young Adults (kosher) Shabbat Dinner on Friday night 22
September will bring together – literally - a world of young people.
Called "Shabbat Shalom Sydney 2000" –
it’s the project the young adult Network and all 20-35-ers are welcome!
The Sydney Jewish community is ready to welcome the world. With its own
IOC-affiliated official Olympic Organising Committee (SOJOC) bringing
together communal organisations from across the spectrum – synagogues,
temples, sporting, cultural and other groups – and staffed by an army of
volunteers, it promises visitors an unforgettable experience!
