Lighting a flame on Yom Tov

Halachah permits the use of fire on Yom Tov for lighting, heating and cooking, provided the flame is lit in the halachically prescribed manner for doing so on Yom Tov.

It should be lit from an existing flame (e.g. the pilot light of a gas appliance), either directly or by a match which is lit from the existing flame.

Halachically, this constitutes adding to a fire rather than lighting a new one.
