PRESENTS TO THE GENERAL COMMUNITY

A SHORT COURSE IN BEREAVEMENT

"I Wish I Knew What To Say"

AIMS: To help people feel O.K. about comforting those going through difficult times, such as loss through death, divorce, retrenchment, immigration or other serious life events.

Session 1: "I wish I knew what to say" ... finding the appropriate words to express feelings and to respond to someone who is distressed or sad.

Session 2: "Thinking with you and not for you" ... avoiding the temptation to act as the 'rescuer' of the bereaved person; expressing empathy rather than sympathy.

Session 3: "Life" ... exploring ways to encourage movement from despair to hope, drawing on the values within our tradition which teach us to look positively towards the future.
