Advocates for Jewish Ageing Rights Inc |
Advocates for Jewish Ageing Rights (AJAR) Inc provides support for ageing Jews in aged care facilities and their families.Advocates for Jewish Ageing Rights Inc has been formed as an independent community group, to assist residents and their families to exercise their rights to ensure that services are appropriate, respectful and delivered in a compassionate manner.
For too long, elderly people in aged care facilities, as well as their families, have been at the mercy of service providers insofar as their "take it leave it" attitude is concerned. Either the services as provided are to be accepted or residents are told they are free to leave.
It is our intention:
1.. To reinforce a positive view of aged people as valued members of our community;2.. To assist aged people and their families in the exercise of their rights through information and support to both individuals receiving services, their families and people interested in their well-being;
3.. To operate independently of any aged-care-related service provider as an advocacy group;
4.. To provide a forum where residents and their families can share ideas, gain support and discuss issues of common concern, with a focus on achieving change in individual facilities;
5.. To ensure service providers are accountable;
6.. To enforce standards in residential care provided to aged Jewish persons;
7.. To ensure service providers place priority emphasis on the people in the buildings rather than the bricks & mortar;
8.. To support residents and families from fear of reprisal and to empower families to initiate action or participation in a "caring partnership" with management and staff in ensuring "best practice" in serving the needs of aged people;
9.. To always be an advocate for improvements in services for aged people;
10..To assume the role of "Ombudsman" in ensuring that all services for aged people are provided in a way that gives them respect and dignity. It is time for our aged relatives and friends to be treated with the respect and dignity they so richly deserve.
